About janies
|
I grew up in Snyder, Texas and am a baby-boomer. I made good grades in school because I was supposed to and never thought to ask myself what I wanted out of life. It was only after both of my parents had died that I started to ask that question. I found that being a full-time, 10-hour-a-day, on-my-feet pharmacist was not the answer, although I did it for 20 years before going part-time. I wanted to be involved in making something that was good from the start instead of following my lifelong path of trying to "fix" what was wrong with myself and everybody I loved. Get the idea there was some dysfunction in my family? Yep! Anyway, that lead me to silversmithing and then to cloisonne' enameling.
My husband and I are animal lovers. We don't want anymore animals to take care of, though, and hold our breath that no more stray or mistreated dogs will come into our lives. We are getting into the last decade of our prime working lives and realize that the amount of money we spend on rescuing animals has been a big chunk which we need to be saving. I also rescue orphaned doves and a few other breeds of bird. I can't easily handle the expense and the time involved, but am just so very much in love with doves. They are the most loving, physically affectionate, quiet, and not-messy birds! I raise and release and then pine for them. Each has his own precious personality.
Since I am 60 (2008) and my husband is fast approaching 60, we find fewer movies that are made to appeal to our generation. We like movies without blood and gore, that leave you feeling up, that make you laugh, that make you think, that make you proud to be a human. The really "artsy" movies that tend to win a lot of academy awards are not usually our favorite. When we find one we like, we buy it and watch it over and over because we don't find much on TV we like nowadays either.
