June 23, 2004: OMG! This past Friday on the 18th, I almost had a heart attack when I found that I couldn't log into my Epinions account. Epinions came up with an error that my account was "inactivated". What?!!!! I've been periodically checking my account and reading and rating reviews even though I post reviews once every few months. I have not received any emails from Epinions or gotten any notices that the account was going to be "inactivated" or pulled off. This is probably due to some computer glitch but it has affected my inablity to rate or access my account . So, I wrote a quick email to Epinions and have not yet received a reply. Obviously, on Monday, I was able to log back in, but not before thinking about this during the weekend. Even if I did lose the account, it's my reviews that are important to me because I believe that I do provide informative accounts, details and tips. I will now take the time to make a copy of all my reviews in case something happens because they are MY reviews. All I can say is that I'm happy that everything is working but worried that it may happen to someone else as well.
There's been a few readers of some of my older reviews that have complained that they weren't accurate. Although I do try to make an effort to go back to older reviews, due to the limited time that I have for Epinions, there is bound to be some reviews that I may miss. So, when reading reviews, please note when it was originally written. Many sites and services that I wrote earlier in 2000 have now become defunct and shut down. Others have since been acquired or merged with other companies, and still, some others have changed to a paid version. I'm sure that a lot of reviews are outdated, so when reading them, take into account that some services may have changed their policies. I will make an effort to update my older reviews if they have been found to have changed.

May 1st 2001- After being a Computer Software Advisor for 6 months, my title has been taken off. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Now I can just continue with the way I've always been without the title hanging over my head.
I am a mother of a toddler. I was licensed and used to work in the financial and stock brokerage industry but now I'm a homemaker and now just enjoy the time with my son. I love learning about new software and technology on the internet and LOVE computers, especially laptops. Recently, I bought myself the latest Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop so you can expect a review on that coming up. And no, I am not a computer expert although I may know a bit about them.
Newbies: Please take the time to read some reviews on writing reviews before posting them. You'll then understand what's what's expected in a review to get Very Helpful ratings. Please read some of my editorials on the subject for help. Rather than get angry at someone for giving you a SH or NH, please read the comments left by fellow members. They are there to help you improve your writing. Most of us don't rate poorly just to make you look bad. There are too many abusers on the site that provide vague, useless reviews and opening up multiple accounts. Many members now do not bother leaving comments to explain their SH ratings, including me sometimes. Please note that we all have a limited time frame to rate, read and write so be thankful that someone took the time to read and rate yours. Read other reviews under the same category as yours to figure out why your review is rated lower. And be courteous those members who rated you and rate them back, regardless of the rating they gave you. And, don't expect too much. Patience is a virtue to live by. It took me months of hard work before I got the hits and the trust. Don't give up.
And, as always, thanks for reading and rating my reviews. I try to keep track of those in my WOT and those who have rated me.
I no longer have the time to do as much reading and rating as I used to be, so don't add me to your WOT if you expect me as someone who will add you back quickly. And I will no longer be able to read all the reviews of members who trust me. So remove me now unless you are serious about having me in your WOT. Thanks for those who keep me in their WOT.
PLEASE, DON'T add me to your WOT and then remove me for no reason. I'd rather you not add me at all. Don't show how childish you are in expecting someone to VH your reviews to get your trust? That's silly. Don't waste my time as well as yours. And those who REMOVE ME will definitely be guaranteed that I will REMOVE THEM from my WOT. I have no time for such childish games.
IMPORTANT! Due to the recent number of members who post plagiarized recipes, I am no longer rating any recipe review. I will read it but will no longer rate them. And I will report any plagiarism and other abuse on this site, regardless of their status and whether or not they are in my WOT. I do not search for plagiarised reviews but will do so if I suspect it. So, like everyone else, I may VH a review not knowing that it was plagiarised. We all make mistakes but I do try to be on the lookout for it.
I only remove members from my WOT if:
1 - They remove me from their WOT without any reason
2 - I have discovered them to be abusive members
Sometimes Epinions does weird things and remove me from others' WOT without the member having anything to do with it. I only remove them if I discover someone removed me without any reason. If it was an Epinions glitch, please advise me and I will put you back in. I just don't have time to play WOT games.

I do NOT retaliate rate. That is the most childish and careless act to do on epinions. I strongly do not believe in SH'ing or NH'ing a rating of a review in the same category to boost hits. There is plenty of money to made without resorting to such low acts. And, I DON'T place anyone on my distrust list just because I had disagreements with him/her. I just stop reviewing his/her reviews. It's irresponsible and childish to place someone on your distrust list due to a personal dispute (especially over ratings). Distrusting someone will make him/her "invisible" to non-members so I refuse to do such an act unless the member is obviously abusing the system or writing garbage reviews.
Please do your part to keep Epinions alive by "distrusting" abusers and NOT reading their reviews. Check the profile page of the reviewer first if you are not familiar with him/her. If most of the reviews are rated "NH" or even "SH", maybe you should be careful since it may be an abuser. If you do find out the reviewer is an abuser, distrust him/her to prevent him/her from getting the income share for posting useless reviews. Although some of their reviews may be tongue in cheek or funny and in bad taste, this is not what Epinions is all about. Epinions should be about presenting product reviews and opinions that will help the consumer make informed, unbiased decisions. If the members are only rambling on something that doesn't help or describe what the product is, what good is it? Why don't they have their own web site of jokes? By getting member or non-member hits, these members will get the income share and money from our viewing the useless review. Why should they get paid for bad jokes? In my opinion, I would just place these members in my distrust list in hopes that non-members won't be able to view them and eventually, they will leave Epinions when they don't make much money. Don't get me wrong, humor is great in a review, as long as the review is informative and helpful. I've rated many humorous reviews and trusted many members who tastefully put humor in their reviews: ladycynic, grneyedcwboy, etc. I only distrust those who are obvious abusers.
BE WARY of members who post lots of reviews on the newer cars. I doubt anyone owns more than 3 cars at most, unless they are millionaires. And if they are, they don't need to make pennies at Epinions.
