HOW I RATE OPINIONS...................
From my perspective, Epinions.com is a place where people from all walks of life help one another. They do this by giving their candid and honest opinions regarding the good and bad experiences they have had with the products or services they use.Editorial opinions, regarding a wide range of topics abound.
I most appreciate opinions that make me feel as though a good friend is telling me the real “scoop,” sincerely watching out for my best interests. Therefore, honesty and integrity are the foundation of Epinions.
With that in mind, here is My Epinions Review Rating System [ERRS]
I rate each opinion taking into consideration how well it meets my criteria.
MY RATING CRITERIA............
HONESTY:
I expect each opinion to provide the reader with true and correct disclosures of the good and bad experiences he/she has had with the reviewed product, service, or subject matter.
INTEGRITY:
I ask that each opinion be written primarily to provide useful information and content to the reader.
FAIRNESS:
I ask that each opinion give the subject matter a fair and impartial hearing. This means that I want the writer to describe the pros and the cons. An emotional diatribe may contain good information but it is not as helpful as a balanced opinion. I respect an opinion that advocates for or against the product. The point is that a balanced review gives the reader a good overview so that he/she use the article to form his/her own opinion. Personal attacks should be avoided.
INFORMATION:
An opinion is not helpful unless it gives the reader sufficient information about the product to make a proper determination to buy/use or not buy/use the product. For me, it is not enough to say, “The car rides really good. You know what I mean?”. I want to know a little about the factors that make the car run smoothly. For example, tell me about the suspension system. If you like or dislike something, I want to know why. Great detail is not required. If the whole article contains facts from a brochure, the opinion lacks heart and soul. I want you to tell me about your personal experiences with the product.
PRESENTATION:
I like opinions that are well written. I don’t like sloppy work. If you don’t care enough about your opinion to, more or less, spell words correctly or correct bad grammar, then why should I care about what you have to say? For me it is a matter of degree. I have read many opinions authored by some of the most trusted Epinionators. Even they occasionally publish opinions containing spelling errors, et al. However, if the content of the review is strong in all other respects, I will overlook mild presentation inadequacies. Moderate or severe presentation problems will tend to lower my rating. Bad spelling, grammar, sentence structure, etc., detracts from the writer's message and makes it harder to communicate effectively with the reader. I realize that Epinions has a poor editing system. Therefore, I am not going to tear an otherwise good opinion apart.
I have made my share of mistakes. However, when I see the errors of my ways,I edit my opinions and make necessary changes. I suggest that you do the same.
