The Coolness Factor Over the past several months I've been trying to find my niche here on epinions. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm more of a "Kids and Family" or "Home and Garden" person. That's because of who I am at this point of my life - my most important role right now is Mommy. But let me assure you - I'm as "cool" as a Mom can get!
My Reviews However, that doesn't mean I won't venture to review in other areas of the site! I expect to do more family/kids related reviews soon, but also some music reviews (I love all GOOD music), movies, restaurants and travel reviews are in the future...
My Style I DO know proper grammar and spelling, however, I tend to write my reviews in a more conversational tone - which means sometimes throwing the rule book out the window.
About My Reviews I only write about what I really know. Things I've actually had experience with. On many reviews I may not always go into great detail about mechanical functioning of a product, or specifications. I write about how a product makes me FEEL. Has it ENHANCED my life? If so, how? I think this is what consumers are REALLY looking for. They are trying to judge whether or not a product is worth the money or the time invested. Specifications they can get off the box - FEELINGS and opinions they can't.
The epinions community: How I Rate Others, How I Relate to Others For those who are new to epinions, you will discover that it's a whole little world unto itself! For many of us it's been HIGHLY ADDICTIVE! Like other groups in life, epinions has its "politics". I've been observing this from the sidelines and have decided to TRY and stay OUT of the politics as much as possible. However, if something comes up that I feel strongly about, I won't hesitate to speak up!
I read and rate others. I actually USE this site to make purchasing decisions myself (currently I'm researching on the best way to stock the bar in my new home - any suggestions?). I give HR's to writers who have answered my questions about a given product, written well AND - hopefully - made me laugh. I also give HR's to those who have put much thought and personal effort into an editorial. R's Are GOOD and mean that the writer has done a good job of explaining the product/subject. Maybe it could have been developed more, but overall they've done well. SR's are for those who have given SOME information, but really haven't answered most of the questions about the product - I see a lot of this with new writers, but they usually get better at developing their ideas over time. I've doled out a few NRs when I've had to - they're reserved for the absurd, obnoxious abusers of the site. (You know who you are.) Then I add these people to my "Web of Distrust" so that hopefully I never run across another opinion of theirs again!
Who I Trust, and Who Trusts Me? I'm currently working on developing my Web of Trust and am extremely choosy about whom I trust. I usually have to read and rate several reviews before determining to "trust" someone - but also, I have to find a thread of something in common with that person.
I truly appreciate those who have chosen to "trust" me! Thank You
I just updated my Web of Trust - so check out the fine writers you see listed there!
