I've returned to Epinions after a long hiatus. Most recently I've reviewed on a number of subjects and items near and dear to me, including a book on Alexander the Great and the DVD of an early version of Baz's Luhrmann's production of Puccini's La Boheme.
My older reviews include:
My review of the Razor Scooter has shown me you can make real money here, and in fact has paid for the scooter itself. For even more fun, you can share in the depth of my hatred for Covad Communications. Also check out my various NYC reviews for tourists and natives on nightlife, cheap food, day spas and visiting the city with kids. Speaking of kids, while I don't have any, I've written some reviews on issues like only children, bullies, gifted kids and children's pageants that I think you should check out.
To everyone who has chosen to trust me or get notified when I write a new review: THANK YOU! I've noticed some people bouncing on and off the list of those who trust me -- I'm not sure if it's an Epinions glitch or what, but if you have any concerns about my opinions, please just drop me an email.
I'm currently trying to decide what I think about some of the political commentary I am seeing on Epinions. I guess it is unavoidable because many of the books and movies that people review arouse political opinions (also, let's not forget the parenting editorials), but it is certainly getting frustrating when it comes to reviewing products and epinions. I will personally not rate a well written epinion poorly if I disagree with its outlook (unless there are factual errors), but sometimes I will refrain from rating an epinion because my views on the subject are too strong to rate fairly.
How I rate I don't have stringent guidelines -- but I look for the following in a R or HR review:
- good writing
- detail about the product
- detail about which features led the reviewer to their opinion
- thoughts about people other than the reviewer -- if the product isn't right for them, is it right for someone else?
- staying on topic
If I have rated your opinion NR or SR it is because you did not provide me with enough details, showed poor writing ability, went off topic excessively or were offensive in your language or attitude.
If you make changes to any of your Epinions and wish me to re-rate them, I am more than happy to, just drop me an email.
I do not engage in revenge ratings and never rate anonymously. If I notice you engaging in revenge ratings against me or anyone else, I will not retaliate, however, I will seriously consider adding you to my web of distrust, as your ratings won't help the people who trust me.
