I run my own business, Century Partners, which buys, renovates and sells homes in the Cleveland area. I don't like the term "flipping" and prefer to think of myself as a restorer. Also, it's not like on TV: I'm not getting rich doing this, but I like it a lot and that's what matters to me--quality of life.
I used to race Corvettes and have a lot of experience with automobiles, including the ground-up restoration of my 1941 Buick Century sedanette, which you can see on my web site. I've done a lot of pretty cool things with cars, and try to stay active in the hobby.
I'm also an accomplished writer, having written a number of published articles, and am currently working on my third novel (although I'm not going to try to market them here). I like writing and do it primarily for fun, not profit. Perhaps someday my writing will support us, but for now, it's just an outlet for my creativity. Or a compulsion.
My wife, Julia, and I just purchased a house built in 1850. It was formerly the club house for the Chesterland Polo Club, and later a 9-hole golf course (there's still a pin and a bunker in our back yard). There's a sign bolted to the house that says, "Will Rogers slept here" and a second one below it that says, "Twice." Kind of cool if it's true. The house was a mess when we bought it and not really configured as a residence--2500 square feet, three bathrooms and only one bedroom! The good news is that everything in the house is commercial grade, but it's also 40 years old. Sheesh! A total renovation is in progress because we intend to stay here forever.
My reviews are typically for big things and books now and then. I'm not going to review toilet paper, toothpaste, milk or anything little like that--does anyone really come to Epinions looking for the best brand of tampons to buy? Doubt it. Besides, who has the time for that? And if there are a lot of reviews on an item already, I'll pass on reviewing it. You don't need my opinion, too, do you?
But any big ticket item I purchase, I'll tell you what I think and try to be impartial about it. I try not to write an opinion when I'm still angry at a defective product, nor when I've just started using a new piece of equipment. I'd rather give you a long-term view of the product so that you can get an idea of the ownership experience. Any new "thing" you buy will work perfectly for a while and during the honeymoon period, of course you'll love it. That doesn't really help a potential buyer much, does it?
Thanks for reading.
