Technology consultant and full time gadget geek! Odds are if it's new, I've already finished with it.

• A Quick Word About How I Rate Reviews:

Chances are you got to my page one of three ways: You've read my stuff and wanted to see other things that I've written, you have my page bookmarked, or you saw that I rated one of your reviews and asked yourself, "Self, who is this clown?".

I won't write an editorial about how I rate because, to be perfectly honest, there are plenty of those around here all ready. I will, however, give a quick explanation about how you got THAT rating from me, just in case you're wondering.

Highly Recommended

Surprisingly, I read each review with the assumption that it will be a "Highly Recommended" review. Idealistic, possibly, but I'm an optimist.

To get a "Highly Recommended" rating from me, your review has to be comprehensive; that doesn't necessarily mean long, but it does mean that you examined both the good and the bad of a product. Spelling counts, as does grammar and structure. I'm not expecting Chaucer, but the occasional paragraph, punctuation mark, and capital letter would be nice. I don't have to agree with the review, but it has to do a good job of presenting your case.

Recommended

For me, a "Recommended" review is one that is well written, thorough, and clean. Usually, the difference between a "Highly Recommended" rating and a "Recommended" rating is only that the "Recommended" review doesn't do a good job of examining the pros and the cons. Usually, the focus is one sided.

Somewhat Recommended

I use the "Somewhat Recommended" rating to acknowledge that you gave it a shot. Usually, there are some good points buried in there somewhere amidst the the jumble of words and sentences that make up your review, but there really isn't enough information there to make a decision based solely on that review.

Not Recommended

Ahh, the dreaded "Not Recommended" rating. This is actually the hardest rating to get from me, because I hate to flush anybody. There are only four ways to get this from me, only four things that I find unforgivable: If your review is nothing but gibberish (and I don't mean, "What is he talking about?" gibberish; I mean, "What is THAT?" gibberish), if your review is CLEARLY a copy or reprint of another review I've read (yours or someone else's), if your review contains the same word or phrase repeated over and over again, or if your review actually has nothing to do with the topic.
