I worked in the publishing industry since my college graduation in 1979, full-time editor, writing on the side until I became a full-time author in 1992. For what it's worth, I have an MA in communications, though in the publishing business, experience (and ability and luck) count for more than degrees. I have lived in Illinois (Chicago 'burbs), Virginia (Va Beach and Richmond), Florida (St Pete area), Alabama (Huntsville), and Tennessee (Nashville), and have lived urban, suburban, and rural, so have a pretty wide experience in life, including travels in Europe, the Carib, most of the US. My general areas of interest/expertise: history (especially early US, Civil War, European), religions, classical and folk music, movies (especially classics), literature (especially classics), southern US wildlife, gardening, genealogy (my own, that is). I enjoy archery, kayaking, and am on a wallyball league. (Yes, you read that right--not volleyball.) Oh, and I love cats. And I am one of the very few men in the world who can hula-hoop.
