About violette
|
I'm brand new to epinions, but I think I'm already an addict. Scariness. I hope I have the time to accomodate this...
I'm the development associate for our city library system, and work some crazy hours, but I'm so glad that I've found my way into this work. Go nonprofits: I'll never work for a corporation again! I also volunteer for NARAL-WI, doing their graphic design (total novice: all I know is Publisher) and am a big booster of human rights and civil liberties causes, among others...
I live with A, my big Maine Coon Buddha cat--the sweetest, most dog-natured cat you'll ever meet. We study Japanese together--that was my major in school. When I get upset with him, it's all Osaka yakuza talk at poor A.
AND FUN--hmm. I read a ton, all fiction--love Nabokov, Martin Amis, Don Delillo, Toni Morrison, many others. Just finished "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahari--fantastic. And I do read the NYT on my commute, etc., and love the crossword, but again, time is an issue (((sigh)))...
I have very diverse taste in music [and I'm not just saying that to be cool, I think...]: I like hard bop ala Mingus or Miles Davis, Aimee Mann, Nina Simone, Fugees/Lauren Hill and other good hip hop, VU, Cake, Bob Dylan...
and I waste altogether too much of my free time on the computer; love google and eBay and all of the random spots my geekier friends point out. Or shopping (BCBG and Franco Sarto!!! that's about as rich as I get) Or out man-shopping and boozing with friends. Or feeling guilty for not exercising or going to grad school or writing a novel, for smoking too much, and of course, for not calling my mom back again (maybe you know the score on at least that last one, huh?). Oh well--at least I don't have cable.
ANYWAY. Like it at epinions--it's refreshing to meet some amazingly savvy and nice people who can by and large write well. [Pander, pander!] But I am really glad to be here.
