So awful I will never use them again.

In May 04 my husband booked a luxury vacation through Expedia for 12 days in BVI. We bought $89.00 worth of travel insurance "just in case." As our departure date drew close (Nov 20, 04) we discovered, much to our dismay that we had to postpone due to a very ill employee of ours.We called Expedia in Oct 04 to reschedule. We were even more dismayed to hear from a very rude Expedia agent that she could not reschedule and our so called "insurance" was worth only about a 20 dollar refund. It took us 3 weeks of dealing with rude expedia agents to finally realize, as they put it "we are SOL."
If it weren't for the kindness of an agent at Contential Airlines and a reservations person at Bitter End Yacht Club (thank you, Liza) I doubt we would go at all. Expedia is ok for just checking flight times but I will purchase elsewhere in the future.

I would never do business with Expedia again. I booked a hotel in Iguazu, Argentina through Expedia yet Expedia booked me at a different hotel with a similar address in Buenos Aires. When I went to check-in, my hotel had no reservation even though I had the printed Expedia confirmation. During countless calls and letters to their pathetic customer service department, I was told it was the hotel’s fault, it was the booking systems fault, and it was not Expedia’s fault because international bookings were done through a third party. Many months and letters later, and only after getting the local Washington state Better Business Bureau involved did I even get an offer of a $50 voucher to use on a future Expedia transaction… PATHETIC! I did not give up, wrote more letters, and only after following Elliott’s advice did I get a refund for the difference. DO NOT let Expedia lie and tell you they do not give refunds!

Website - easy to use, BUT Customer Service - a BIG ZERO!

I actually have been pleased with Expedia.ca (the Canadian equivalent) until a recent return flight by American Airlines from Caracas to Vancouver via Dallas. For some strange reason, the Dallas-Vancouver flight was "used" (these were the words by AA staff) thus leaving me stranded in Dallas. Distressed in Venezuela, I called expedia, incurring long-distance phone charges, and like other contributors to this forum, waited like an idiot for an hours ON HOLD, despite me stressing the urgency of the situation. I had to hang-up as the flight was departing Caracas.

AA cleared the situation in Dallas but expedia did nothing - I e-mailed their customer service on my return and they took FIVE DAYS to reply; of course, with a scripted response. I have no doubts that there will be no consideration of the problem or my question about emergency response lines. I only found this website recently and would have been more cautious in using expedia to purchase the tickets. I suspect that they might be better with North American flights versus international.

Website : user friendly.
Customer Service : Unimaginably non-existent.
Second chance? Likely.

Expedia.com representatives lie and make up stories. Expedia refuses to correct their errors.

My husband and I bought travel insurance from Expedia.com for our last trip. I discovered the insurance policy did not cover the entire trip. The last 4 days were left off. Expedia REFUSED to fix the problem, or provide a refund. I spent hours on the phone with them talking to various people in India who told me many contradictory stories. Expedia refused to correct their error. They lied to me and made up stories. Horrible customer service.

$1300 dollars later, and I am being told it could be 6 mths before my account is credited. Almost forgot the first two reps said it would be credited, then I was billed, the last rep said no credit. Wow, does anyone know what is going on at Expedia?

An absolutely dreadful customer service nightmare that I would rather soon forget

My wife and I decided to take a last-minute vacation before I started a new job. So I decided to give Expedia a try. This was a horrific experience. When we booked the flight, we made note that my wife gets severe motion sickness and we need to be seated toward the front of the plane. When our tickets arrived in the mail, we were shocked to find that we were in the very back of the plane, which was completely unacceptable. When we called Expedia to see if they could remedy the situation, our calls were disconnected FOUR TIMES with no return call. When we complained, we were told that the disconnections were not done purposely and they were sorry. However, my wife had to call the airline herself to get the seats moved up, as Expedia did nothing. I would recommend avoiding Expedia. They got us no real discount and provide horrible customer service.

Easy to order, fast confirmation. Orders were accurate. Customer service is mediocre to poor when things go wrong. And although Expedia is a travel agency, it will not take responsibility for airline or hotel cancellations. You can lose a significant amount of money because of this. I had to buy a ticket from another airline to replace the cancellation, and paid first-class prices for a coach seat. Expedia said they couldn't help me.

Beware "Expedia Vacation Waiver"

I have purchased a vacation package with Expedia Vacation Waiver option. It tells you “You can change or cancel your trip for any reason prior to the scheduled start of your trip”. Even if you read a fine-print it gives a first impression that you can cancel or change your package without losing money. However, when I called them to cancel the package, they responded that only the hotel was refundable under the Vacation Waiver and the airfare was not. Apparently, if your ticket is not-refundable / not-changeable according to the airline policy (which is often the case), Expedia Vacation Waiver will NOT cover its cost. You are going to lose the full value of your ticket. This is far not obvious from the description of the Vacation Waiver on the Expedia site. This experience costed me $600. So, beware.

Beware of Expedia! Customer service is the wost!

Beware of Expedia! Customer service is the worst ever. I booked a flight months ago. Today, 4 days before the flight, they emailed me 3 times with flight changes. I was finally directed to take my new confirmation email to the airport (a 40 minute drive) immediately and ask to be rebooked onto the flights as shown on the email. The changes were significant. The flight was 4 hours earlier than I had planned to fly and was onto a totally different airlines. I took the email to the airport. The new airline would be happy to rebook me, for a fee in excess of $500! Why should I have to pay a penny for changes that I did not request and do not want. Expedia customer service claims not to have any idea what I am talking about even though I have received 3 phone calls from them and two emails! Beware!

Let me tell you after having a big hassle with priceline over changing the date for my travel I have got to say that Expedia is not only very accomodating but actually believes in giving 100% satisfaction to the customer. I think from now on I will use them.

Ridiculously high quotes -- who is updating this site!! ??

WHAT a laugh! I looked at Expedia after checking Air Canada and Maersk web sites directly for flights to London and onto Denmark. These costs were Canadian $1500.00 plus 200 Sterling for two of us == so about $2000.00 total give or take a few
dollars .

Expedia's quote-- using the SAME airlines?? $5,159.00

DON"T be fooled by their ads-- 10 minutes of your time can save you many many dollars!!!

Taking them out of my Travel Folder Bookmarks!!!

Fast, friendly, easy to use, but not entirely accurate

Expedia is easy to use, and offers good prices. However, be aware that if you get an airline/hotel combination, you may not get the hotel price you were quoted.

I booked a cross-country trip to Orange County, California for three people. While the prices were great, I was astounded to receive a call from Expedia telling me that the hotel would not honor the price Expedia quoted. The trip ended up costing me an extra $225.00.

Furthermore, the hotel was undergoing renovations, which Expedia stated would not affect guests. When we got there, we found that the pool wasn't working, and we were awakened every morning at 8 am by the sound of jackhammers. Door handles were falling off, the air conditioning made a terrible noise, and we ended up having to change rooms.

Expedia needs to be careful how they advertise hotels, and be sure to warn customers in advance if there are potential problems.

However, the airline tickets were inexpensive and on a major airline, and the rental car (from a major rental car company) was quite acceptable. Except for the difficulties with the hotel as stated above, we experienced no problems.

Expedia.com is an okay way to book a flight if your flight details are easy and straightforward. If there is ANY chance of having to postpone your trip or cancel your reservations, seriously think twice about NOT booking through Expedia.com. Re-booking a flight with an existing credit through Expedia.com is time consuming, complicated and expensive. Not only is there a re-booking fee associated with the airline, ($75) but Expedia.com also assesses a $30 fee to re-book, not to mention the serious amount of time waiting for the Expedia.com agent on hold and then figuring out their system for re-booking. Local travel agents offer much greater service, flexibility, protection and ease of doing business. Plus, they have access to better fares and prices, which Expedia.com & Travelocity don't want your to know. Their advertising on TV and in the newspaper and radio costs money which you are helping to pay for by using their lousy service! Buyer beware!
Recommendation: AVOID EXPEDIA.COM

will never book again with them - very innefficient - our flight was cancelled, $ was sent from united to expedia, expedia did not refund to me without a lot of hassle. i was constantly kept on hold, some issues with them took hours to clear up.  they would not communicate reolution with me thru email - i had to be kept on hold - refunds for errors and cancelled flights took over a month, wasted literally hours on hold to re-explain issues to numberous people, the staff is very polite, policies are inefficient. never again -

Happy and then very disappointed

I went to Expedia because, I must admit, I was intrigued by their commercials and thought to try the service in the hopes that I could save some money booking flights.  The first time I used Expedia I was satisfied with their prices and services.  However, the second time I used Expedia, I was not at all happy.  I unfortunately needed to make a change to my flight and then I read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page that told me it would cost an average of $200 to make any adjustments.  Frankly, it's very poor business sense to penalize people for trying to do business with you.  That is a sure way to keep people from being repeat customers, because it becomes too expensive to do business with the company, despite the company's claims of affordability and accomodation. 
I would strongly recommend that people forgo using Expedia and take their business directly to the airlines themselves, especially those who could possibly need to make flight changes (and in this day, that is almost everyone).  Otherwise, it actually costs more to use this service than to deal with the airlines directly.
