A great resource for rare and out-of-print books. by heatherweh ,Feb 19 '05
Alibris is a good resource for out-of-print books. I have bought 6 out-of-print books from Alibris within the past two weeks. One of the books was "not in stock", I guess the person who had posted it for sale had accidentally sold it before they put it into my order. I was refunded that money immediately, but when I went to see about purchasing a different copy, I saw that the price had gone up by about $30, so I was unable to purchase a replacement. Besides that one experience, the other five books were actually bought at a steal, I paid about $5 for a book that sells for about $50 on E-bay or Amazon. The key is shopping around- Alibris will have the same book listed at varying prices. The shipping was quick and convenient and cost about $3.50 per book. I would and do recommend this to people searching for out-of-print and rare books.
I should have just flushed my money down the toilet ... by nerkleanerd ,May 18 '06
... at least then I could have saved two weeks and been entertained a little.
I'm a poor college student and so I tried to save some money by ordering a book on-line from Alibris. Big Mistake! I never received my book even though I paid extra for expedited shipping. So now I get to spend too much money at the college bookstore AND pay Alibris for a book never received.
Oh, yeah, I contacted their customer service twice and got nowhere. What a bunch of rude jerks.
I am mad now that I've read all the reviews here. How is Alibris allowed to stay in business? Why we paying good tax dollars to our justice system and consumer protection agencies if they are allowing these thieves and liars to steal with impunity?
I was misdirected into ordering the wrong item, and then was unable to contact anyone to correct the error. What a joke. I am so disgusted at having fallen for their trap.
Found the book I was looking for easily, located the merchant who had the book available, at acceptable terms, placed the order, and received the book promptly. All-in-all a great experience! Read more

I received an email notifying me that i would be refunded the purchase price. No explanation as to why or anything. After repeated attempts to contact them through email (customer service) , i was told the item was out of stock and that was the reason for the cancellation/refund. Read more
Is a good shopping with them. I forgot to input a discount. E-mailed them and was given the discount. Read more

I ordered some books for a college course I teach here in the Netherlands on December 20th 2006 (and one book on Dec. 30th). It is now January 16th and i have not received a single book yet, and two of the items have not even shipped out to me yet, which means I may not receive them for another 3-4 weeks. I realize that I placed my order just before the holidays, but I find the time between ordering and shipping unacceptably long in most of the cases. The system of having independent sellers ship first to Alibris and then Alibris shipping to the customer seems to create delays. I am very unhappy that I will probably not have any of the textbooks I ordered on time for the start of the class. So far i only seem to get automatic or standardized replies to my queiries as to where my books are. I would only order from Alibris again if by some miracle the majority of my order arrives by this coming Monday, or I needed a book I couldn't get anywhere else. Read more
