I really wanted to purchase a North Face Jacket on December 4 for an upcoming trip later in December. The Altrec website was my first choice, but stated the piece would not ship until the 18th. I needed to receive the jacket before then, so I called Customer Service to inquire if the order could be expedited. I was told that they didn't stock it and it had to be ordered from North Face. Understandable.
However, 14 days to order an item from North Face seems excessive. I can order directly from North Face with one day processing. I don't get it.

 What really bothered me was I felt like I was being blown off. Altrec must be doing really well in this ecomomy if they won't even attempt to exedite a product for a cash paying customer. Their website doesn't even give a customer the ability to e-mail. I had to come here to register feedback.

I guess I'll be ordering this jacket from a competitor who is also offering a deep discount, free shipping, and 1-5 day turnaround.

Very unsatisfactory experience, tried to price match, they said they would need to verify product was same season, model, colour and I completely understand that, however they got back to me and said they had spoken to competitor and item was not the same. I called competitor a few minutes later only to have them confirm through their buyers that the item was exactly the same, brought this to their attention and all they could say is "we rely on information other dealer supplies", I am not sure how reliable their "price match" is when an ordinary shopper can obtain more information about a product than their own customer service rep. Hmmmm.... Campmore had way better price, and found several other sites that had better prices too!

I ordered a sleeping bag by Marmot and the order was put in a "pending" status, (I've never heard of that from a company, especially online).  I never recieved a receipt nor any communication about my order.  I called Altrec several days later because I thought they e-mailed me with a tracking number and I deleted it.  To my surprise, they informed me the order I placed did not go through w/the vendor.  The vendor was out of stock of that item and "supposedly" Altrec sent me an e-mail stating such.  So, I placed  another order for the same sleeping bag, (except the zipper on the other side) again my order was placed as "pending".  After 48 hours I called and they explained to me how their company worked.  I cancelled the order.  They, "Altrec" wasted my time and the customer associate I spoke with could of cared less.  I am ordering from another company.  If they don't have it, they let you know and their shipping is fast. Forget this wait and see stuff....

Product was delivered on time, at a great price. Requests (e-mails) to customer service were answered immediately and satisfactorily. Definitely would recommend to others!

It was easy to order. But to return, they won't exchange. Have to do it as separate invoices. The selection is great, but their return policy is more finicky than bigger companies. To me, convenience is the reason to shop on the web. 

I use Altrec regularly. They always ship extremely quickly.

Another super plus I've discovered is they pay the postage for returns!

Great customer service. I emailed them after I found lower prices at other online stores and they contacted me via email immediately. I was given a direct number and even though I had to leave a message, they called me back within minutes. I spoke with an associate named Nolan and gave him the other sites and price information, and he happily matched every one. I would definitely recommend ordering through Altrec!

I ordered 4 pairs of snow-shoes a week before Christmas, and took a chance that the free ground shipping would reach me by Dec 24th. The next day, I realized how foolish it would be to rely on ground shipping from West coast to East coast this late so I called Altrec customer service to upgrade to 2 day shipping. The good news was that my complete order had shipped within 12 to 24 hours of being placed, the bad news was that it was too late to upgrade to faster shipping (I was warned not to expect the order in time for Christmas). The best news was that the complete order still arrived by noon on the 24th! Perfect timing, we're very happy with our buying experience!

I ordered a North Face backpack, and it shipped the next day. I received it on time 2 days later with no problems. The backpack came in a giant box, with lots of padding. I was surprised that Altrec didn't stuff my backpack into a tiny box to save space and $$ as I had paid for the cheapest shipping. These guys really know how to impress, and their prices are some of the best too! I opened the box and found out that they even included a free fleece headband - and in navy blue, not yellow or something that would make you believe it was overstock and couldn't be sold. The next time I want to search for a backpack or jacket, I'm heading over to Altrec.

Altrec has misleading pricing schemes. You purchase a product to discover there is a 20% mark up on the tag once you get it. Their customer service has no response when questioned about this. The product delivers quick, but their customer service is horrible.

Customer sercie and "Price Match Plus" are AWESOME at Altrec.com. I recently ordered a pair of Oakley sunglasses in which Altrec matched the price from another website PLUS they gave me 5% on top of the savings. They offered free shipping as well. After placing my order, I found Oakley sunglass case that I wanted so I called back Dave F. (who helped me initially). He took my payment information, gave me FREE shipping and was super efficient and friendly. You can't ask for better customer service, product selection, or prices than at Altrec.com. I have become a loyal customer!!

my shopping experience at first run  my order  it was ok and easy, until i had to wait 3 weeks for my pkg to arrive because someone at altrec as made mistake in writing my address,complaing did nothing,my pkg should have been deliver in 7 days,i definetely had a negative experience,i will not buy from them again.

Great luck.  Had to wait a while for one item out of 4, but prices and selection were great, and return on the one item I chose not to keep was easy.  Had good luck with online customer service.  Would definitely order from them again.

I'm not happy with my order. I ordered a product that was listed in stock and 24 hours later I get a phone call message saying that the product is NOT in stock and my order was cancelled. I wasn't even given the option of backordering. They said to reorder in 2-4 weeks. No thanks, I'll go somewhere else.

and altrec.com quickly took care of my return.

I have ordered several times from Altrec and received prompt delivery. The customer service is very helpful and knowledgeable about the products. One item I ordered went on sale the next week so I wrote an email asking for the sale price. My account was credited, although Altrec failed to contact me. However, their willingness to give me the discounted price was great. I will continue to order from them in the future.

I will probably never do business with Altrec. I ordered a jacket on December 14 and still haven't gotten it. I received confirmation emails that my ordered was confirmed and that it was being shipped. When it still didn't arrive on Xmas Eve, we looked up the tracking number, only to discover that it had been sent to an address in NY! I emailed the customer servie rep Dave F., and explained the situation. He emailed me back syaing the "items (2), we shipped and signed for, if I had any more questions to call him". Since then we have left numeroues phone messages and emails and haven't heard back from them. Meanwhile I ordered one item, my credit card has been charged, and on top of this I paid for shipping!

Currently I have been on hold for almost 15 minutes waiting to speak to someone. Think twice about buying from Altrec.

I have been completely satisfied with my 3 experiences with Altrec. The selection is extensive and the sale prices are the best around. Free shipping is available for orders over $45, and it is a very quick UPS ground service. They even offer a price match service up to 14 days after the invoice date. The website is easy to navigate, and checkout is quick and easy.

I recently purchased a Sirius 3 tent, as was surprised when attempting to use it for the first time that it did not fit the measurement specifications advertised (manufacturer specs). The length of 84" was actually 76", and being 76" tall (6'4"), meant that I was touching the front and rear of the tent when lying down (not great for wet conditions!).

I explained the tent had been used once, and that I no longer have the original packaging, but Altrec agreed to take the tent back for a refund. The buying experience with altrec.com was very nice, but the customer service and willingness to compensate went above and beyond. I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to Drew and the altrec.com team!

After Searching everywhere locally and online(including Ebay) I found Nike's aquasocks at Altrec. I ordered on Tuesday with regular ground shipping and they were at my house on Thursday. Amazing!!

Shipping is too slow!  I placed an order and it wasn't received for almost two weeks.  In all fairness, they state on their website that it may take 8 to 10 business days, but they need to work out a quicker arrangement with their shipper, FedEx.  Additionally, most retailers offer free return shipping of products that do not fit.  Altrec does not.  It cost $18.55 to return two pair of shoes to them that did not fit appropriately because they insist on the items being insured.  (To my benefit, I know)  I'm not paying any company to try on their shoes!  (I had the exact shoes in the same size I ordered...???)  What if they next size I ordered had not been correct?  In this economy, there are many places that want my shoe business, and they will help me get what I want.   Altrec is not that company, and I will not be using Altrec in the future. 

I purchased a North face bag, with a great discount with free shipping.  I just got my backpack just in time for my trip.. Fast Shipping.. I'll buy next time from them..  reliable..

Big discount, free shipping, eventhough its free shipping.. they shipped it right away and got my bag super fast.. I'm loving it!!!!

Package arrive in excellent condition, the item is wrap in a plastic bag, which is the way to go.

They have good pricing, but the shipping and processing of orders is too slow.  Not worth ordering from again.  I ordered a "special item", a rain coat, on a thursday and the next friday it was still not processed and ready to ship.  They should set realistic expectations. Instead of saying it will take 4-6 business days to ship. They should tack on the 6+ business days to process a credit card for a total of 2.5-3 weeks to get an order mailed with free shipping.

Worst Customer Service EVER:

1) Bad faith ship date (Only shows AFTER order placed).

2) Service rep disconnected chat window when (politely) asked to cancel order.

3) Customer Service would not return phone calls nor emails.

Had to escalate to Customer Service Manager to resolve.

Completely unsatisfactory service - AVOID THIS VENDOR

Ordered $120 snow boots - when I received them they were defective.  Sent them back immediately, 1 MONTH LATER NO CREDIT TO MY ACCOUNT.  Have called them and they say they "put it through" and that it should show up in a couple of days, but it never did! HORRIBE SERVICE AND RETURNS!

Great first time shopping experience with Altrec.
They not only had the best selection of the type of shoes that I wanted, they had the best price on them. They shipped them for free and then threw in a bonus item and magazine subscription! Then, a couple of weeks later, they asked me to review the item for their site and gave me another 10%off to use on a future order.

Altrec products reach my door faster than any other! Customer service is wonderful! You can't beat their product quality, quick delivery....it's the best! Have used other sites but this one is definitely at the top of my list for ordering outdoor equipment/clothing!

Recently we bought a gregory backpack, smartwool hiking socks, sleeping bag and a camp light from them. We ordered the items in 3 installments. Our experience has been excellent. Their customer service was friendly and fully aware of their product (its plus points and its limitations). They also helped us with the orders. In one case they went out of the way to give me an extra 10% discount. I did not try their price match policy. On one ocassion their product was just 2 dollars more than the lowest price product on the web. Most reputed companies were selling at much higher prices. My top 3 online stores are bhphoto, zappos and altrec.

I was very pleased with the pricing and speed in which I recieved my order.  I ordered a pair of Merrell shoes and was able to get them 5-10% cheaper than any other listed site and the shoes were at my fron door in 3 days. 

Altrec delivers a great all around shopping experience.  They give expert advice while still delivering rock bottom prices.  Their shipping is usually faster than advertised and I have yet to experience a problem with any part of the shopping experience.  I like the fact that they have experts on line ready to chat if you have any questions and have receiving nothing but good advice from them.  Finally, Altrec is unmatched in selection, which I find essential to comparing the best products out there.

I ordered a Jacket from Altrec.com online.  I never got an email confirmation, so tried calling, emailing, online chating and never got through to anyone.  I figured the order never went through, so ordered the jacket from somewhere else.  Sure enough my Altrec order went through and the jacket showed up.  Now I have two jackets, and am trying to send back the one from Altrec.... Once again, no one picks up the phone at the 800 number, no one responds to the online chat, or email, and they won't send me the password to my account.  Something is going on, maybe their going out of business??  I highly recommend no doing business with this outfit.
