My new favorite past time!
by whiterabbit16 ,Jun 21 '05
Anyone who thinks the Blockbuster Online product is bad needs to stop and remember the "old days" when they paid $4/movie plus late fees (75% of the time for me). Also, you had to try and get to your local store EARLY on a Friday to try and get the new release you wanted, which you rarely were able to get. NOW...I line up the movies I want and keep my mind open to a few and am always happy! I want to see every movie in my queue so I don't even care what order they come in! I try to not look at my queue so I'm surprised at what I get but its SO addictive...everyone should give it a try.

Wrteched, wretched service. A joke.
by cvilly ,Oct 21 '04
Delivery speed was about as bad as it could possibly be, short of just not sending movies at all. Movie selection is not as good as Netflix either.
I signed up for the service with a great friends and family discount. The service was so bad that I dropped it even with the great price. It took about 10 days for them to send movies. No exaggeration. I would send movies back and they would claim to receive them 2 weeks to a full month after sending them. Obviously, this seriously limited the number of movies I could rent in a month. This service is an embarassment to Blockbuster.
I canceled after about a month and just recently got a notification that one of my movies had been returned. A full 2 months after canceling the service and returning my movies. I couldn't recommend against this service any more strongly.

Very disappointing
by shin-ken ,May 20 '05
I do not recommend Blockbuster's online rental service. I tried it for about 6 months and did not like it at all.
1. The turnaround (from the time you mail a movie to the time they "receive" it is double to triple the time of Netflix.
2. They seem not to pay too much attention to the queue. Many times they would skip over movies that were "available" and send me something lower in my queue.
3. Some movies that were listed as "long wait" never even showed up as available over the 6 months I used their services.
I have been using Netflix for over 3 years and love their service. Quick, friendly and with tons of hard-to-find movies, there is none that can compare to them at this time.

Very slow service
by reyluv ,Sep 17 '04
I signed up for Blockbuster's version of NetFlix. They gave me a free 20-day trial and then charged me after that. During the trial, things went smoothly. They would send the DVD and I would get it within the next day, or the day after. Things changed after the trial ended and they started charging me. Their web site started posting longer wait days. They now post three day wait from the day they ship the DVD. I thought this is bad, since most people I know wait 2-days for NetFlix. After 3-days, the DVD did not arrive! This really sucks! Especially since where I live, they handle things in Sacramento (CA) site, and I live in Pleasanton, which is about 90 miles away! So my guess is they used first class mail during trial and then switched me to cheaper media mail after i signed up for the service. A typical bait-and-switch move. I've decided to cancel this service and sign up for netflix instead.

This is one of the poorest excuses for a business I have ever seen.
by rconf ,Mar 10 '05
This is one of the poorest excuses for a business I have ever seen. How they believe they could compete with Netflix is beyond me. I have all 15 of my requested movies on "very long wait," I have seen very slow shipment times, my ecoupons don't show up, and now their website is giving me errors when I try to quit. All of these issues I have sent in through their online "customer service." I only received back 1 form letter that said my coupons were ready (which they never were). Other than that, no responses. I am now going to have to take this up with my credit card company as fraud. For a week now the site will not let me cancel, and nobody will answer emails from that place. Now I have passed another monthly charge date. AAAGGGHHH!
Why did I ever believe the same company that has ripped me off for years with their prices and insane late fees could ever come up with an acceptable online service? AVOID!!

Blockbuster Online is far superior than Netflix
by oaktreed ,Dec 29 '04
Blockbuster Online is a great service. Most of my movies arrived on time or one or two days before arrival date. It is superior to netflix. Blockbuster sent new releases a day prior to them coming out in the stores. I really waited only one day extra for new releases. Plus you get two free coupons a month for the walk-in store. I couldn't complain.

Sloooooow delivery, wait for popular titles.
by dirtynri_dt3000 ,Jun 09 '05
I joined the service 5 days ago, have only received one movie so far. Many popular titles require a waiting period. I read some of the initial reviews which were very positive, however, the more recent reviews seem to echo the same problems I am having with slow delivery and waiting periods for some movies. I tried the Netflix free trial, and was surprised at the fast turnaround.
On the plus side, the website was pretty easy to browse, and they do have the coupons for free in-store rental. I used one the other day, ofcourse I got hit with late fees from more than a year ago (. . . they get you somehow!).

Avoiding new releases + using in-store coupons = Great first month
by spamblot ,Mar 25 '06
I signed up for Blockbuster Online's $17.99 3-at-a-time plan. I've maintained a queue of 15 to 20 titles all "available now" and *no* new releases. (I like the oldies.)
I turned the DVDs around pretty quickly, holding them an average of one or two nights each.
My only disappointment with the service is that I can't really control which titles I'll receive next. Even though none were new releases and all were "available now", the titles shipped seemed to be uniformly spread over the top ten. Well, actually the top 2-10, because Blockbuster never shipped the first title in my queue.
During the first month, I received 12 DVDs. So my cycle time was about one week on each of the 3-out. Were they throttling? Who knows. But overall, I watched those 12 DVDs plus 4 more titles I picked up from my local Blockbuster store using the weekly e-coupons. That's 16 titles for $17.99 plus tax, a great deal so far.

THE BEST!!!
by urbanfemme ,Apr 03 '07
I love Blockbuster's online rental program. I had tried Netflix at the same time and Blockbuster is the best because of their NEW "ALL ACCESS" PROGRAM. You can now exchange your rentals in the store for new FREE movies and you get coupons every month.
Regarding the OLD Opinions:
The ALL ACCESS program is NEW. I noticed some of the OLD reviews from '04 & '05 were not so good but there has been a drastic improvement made in 2006. I would never go back to Netflix.

Painfully disappointing DVD rentals by mail
by alanhandel ,Jan 11 '05
Horrible DVD rental service. Despite shipping from 25 miles away from my house, movies seem to take 5 days to get to me, and about the same to show up as returned on the other end. Missing movies, canned customer service replies which provide little or no useful information.
I don't care if it's a buck or two cheaper than the competition, Blockbuster is a frustrating waste of time. I will consider going back to Netflix, or just renting in person.

DO NOT Rent from Blockbuster. They cheat.
by flwrgrdn ,Aug 23 '07
I was recently told my billing plan would increase by 6.00 a month based on the number of movies I rented and returned to the store. Since my contract with Blockbuster specifically stated "unlimited" rentals, apparently that was all a lie. it isn't unlimited number of rentals, it is "we will track how many and when you exceed what we want you to rent, we will raise your prices". I cancelled immediately. If I broke the contract and didn't pay or keep to my end of the agreement, I shudder to think how fast they would cancel me. DO NOT rent from Blockbuster. their customer service sucks, the only thing good about it that made me change from netflix was the ability to rent from a store. since they increased the price and limited it to 3, I quit. not worth the additional hundreds per year. take my advice, go elsewhere for online movies rentals.

Perfect, we love it and would reccomend it to anyone!
by punkzoo ,Mar 22 '07
My family and I absolutely love ordering our DVD's online from blockbuster. We usually order childrens movies and older movies online that we want to see and then when we are done with those we go trade them in for the good new releases. Its great we are never without a movie. Also with the two e-coupons a month we rent games which are usually 6.99 each. We save so much money by renting our movies and games this way.

Great value and good turnaround time!
by cargoshift ,May 01 '05
After Blockbuster introduced this during the summer of 2004 I joined but quit after about 2 months. I was disappointed with the turnaround time of getting movies via mail. However since joining again three months ago, I have found that turnaround is speedy. It takes 2 days for a movie to get to my house. Not bad! I find that in any given month I get about 12-15 dvd's. Considering the price of less than $15, it's a bargain! Plus the website where you "order" movies gives members two free instore coupons per month. These instore coupons are especially handy to use when one wants a movie "on the spur of the moment". One thing I would suggest to any Blockbuster Online customer is to make sure your que (wishlist) is always full. Sometimes the movies you really, really want are not available right away, so give Blockbuster your second, third, fourth, etc. choices.

Go with Netflix!
by snwshrddr ,May 08 '05
I am absolutely appalled by their quality control. I've joined Blockbuster Online (Switched from Netflix) one month ago. There are already 3 DVDs that were damaged or mistakenly delivered. Two of the movies froze right in the middle of them and were unable to continue. I was so annoyed! (Especially they were something I was so looking forward to watching!)
Extra 4 dollars will buy you better service and no annoyance at Netflix. Blockbuster Online does not deserve our money. I know I am going back to Netflix now.

BLOCKBUSTER DOES NOT HAVE THE TECHNICAL CAPACITY TO RUN AN ONLINE RENTAL OPERATION
by lobos ,Jan 30 '07
I truly disappointed with the Blockbuster online rental service. I Switch recently from Net-flix because i liked the option of getting additional movies from the store but BB DOES NOT HAVE THE TECHNICAL CAPACITY TO RUN AN ONLINE RENTAL OPERATION
THEIR FEED BACK TO MY QUESTIONS IS STANDARDIZED AND VAGUE (THEY NEVER GIVE ME THE EXPLANATION THAT I NEED
THEIR QUEUE IS A JOKE i HAVE SELECTED MANY MOVIES WHICH NEVER GET SHIPPED TO ME (NET--FLIX WORKED LIKE A SWISS CLOCK I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM)AND I AM VERY TEMPTED TO GO BACK ALTHOUGH I MISSED THE CHANCE TO GO TO THE STORE FOR EXTRA MOVIES
