Blockbuster . . . faster than Netflix by aexapo ,Jan 10 '06
Last year, I joined Blockbuster's online movie rental program. I was tired of buying DVDs, and didn't want to try traditional renting (which I've always hated). They had a great sign-up offer, and I joined.
Over the next few months, I enjoyed their selection and turn around time -- but was often distracted by their site glitches and downtime. I decided to move to Netflix, the online rental innovator, and discovered a site that was much nicer, as was the ease of ordering movies.
Boy, did I make a huge mistake! If you want to know the difference between those two services -- it's in delivery time. In my area, I can order a movie from Blockbuster, and it's in my mailbox the next day. With Netflix, add a day . . . and sometimes two.
Yesterday, I switched back to Blockbuster. Their site seems improved, and today . . . the movies were in the mail! I obviously made the right choice!
How bad is Blockbuster's online service? Let me count the ways.... by madsquirrel ,Feb 28 '08
1) My very first week I received the wrong DVD (the sleeve had the right movie name but the DVD inside did not match!).
2) It wasn't a fluke and kept on happening... 3 out of 9 DVD's that I ordered within a matter of weeks were WRONG!!!
And that was just the beginning, now add...
3) slow service (DVD's took WAAAY longer to arrive than they had with Netflix. On one occasion 5 days!!!)
4) DVD's in my cue came out of order!!! Which might not have been so bad if they were movies, but I had begun watching a show and NEEDED my DVD's in sequence... wouldn't ya know!
Moral of the story... STAY with Netflix!!! I went back (and feeling warm and fuzzy all over!) it's like welcoming back an old (and RELIABLE) friend... DVD's that I actually order, when I order them... imagine that!
AVOID BLOCKBUSTER LIKE THE PLAUGE, GO WITH NETFLIX by go4kj ,Mar 06 '07
Tried both Blockbuster and Netflix. Netflix wins hands down. Faster service time and better selection. Blockbuster worked fine till the 2 week trial period was in effect. Movies were coming in fast and I was getting double the number of movies by exchanging them in-store. However, I returned 3 movies to the store on 2/21/07 and as of today 3/5/07 no movies have been shipped. My queue is 65 movies+. Tried to contact their customer service without any success. They acknowledge that there is a problem, but don't seem to do anything about it. I'm waiting for my membership to end & then I'm going to go back to Netflix. There is no in-store free rentals & you don't get double the amount of movies, but atleast they do what they advertise. I ship movies today, they get them tomorrow and the new movies are at my home the next day 80-85% of the time. I've filed a complaint with the BBB(Better business bureau) for a refund from Blockbuster. Let's see how that goes.
Great experience, higly recommended by lisagauss ,Jul 11 '07
I used to be a NetFlix customer but after they screwed up my order a few times I decided to go with BlockBuster. I've posted some Promo Codes for Free 1 Month Trial and Free rental coupon here...

From great to horrible in the span of a year by pimphofoo ,Dec 20 '07
Blockbuster just raised their rates AGAIN for the second time in less than 6 months. The cost of my plan has now doubled and I'll be canceling. There are several funny changes in their scheme. For one when you used to take a dvd into a store as long as you did it fairly early in the day, your next title in your queue would ship as soon as it was checked in. Now, instead, blockbuster waits 24 hours supposedly, and more realistically they often wait MORE than 24 hours. In addition the coupon for a free game rental which was standard with the total access pass is gone, removing an 8 dollar value. the most hilarious part however is that as blockbuster stores make more and more room for purchasable dvds, the selection of movies to rent seems to be getting increasingly bad at their physical stores. Horrible offer that used to be outstanding.
