NOT WORTH IT
by jaygleaton ,Apr 27 '09
Everything works fine but they only saved me $4 on a 4 star hotel and I didn't get to choose which hotel I was going to stay at. It is a GAMBLE and you definately have the chance to LOSE when you gamble. Look for more reviews and you'll see the majority are NEGATIVE. I feel lucky I didn't lose out too bad.

Hotwire Hell. Customer Service at its worse,
by atracat ,Jan 31 '05
We spent more money going through hotwire. Hotwire's package deals come with a surprise flight time. They offer no options to pick out flight times, and now we know why. They gave us very bad times, helping us to miss two days of our vacation. We called customer service three times, only to be insulted and hung up on once, and then apologized over and over, like a mono toned, programmed robots, and that they were sorry, and that there was nothing they could do to save our vacation. Having to wake up to catch the shuttle back to the airport at 4am is something I hope no one else has to go through. Believe me when I tell you this, you will pay the same on a site that lets you pick your flight times. To sum it up, This is the worst customer service I've had in my entire life. Even worse than the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

Very Poor
by bdlaforge ,May 12 '08
Booked me into a room that clearly did not satisfy their star rating. When I contacted them to complain, they failed to follow up. When I followed up with them, the gave me the run around, refusing to provide a refund or to otherwise explain the rating. All in all, a very poor experience.

Use the Hotel search with caution!
by sharpshoper ,Oct 16 '03
I was happy to find super low price on hotels(about a 70% saving) on hotwire.com. How ever, there is room for improvment on their web services. For example, it does not allow you to choose the type of room you are booking. Since many people like our self travel with young children, it would be nice to choose the type of room that you are searching for so you don't end up in a super small "stander" room with two toddler. I will still use their services again, however, I will only use the hotel search if I travel without kids.

'Double the Difference' promise is never kept.
by beast98 ,Nov 21 '05
I booked a hotel room in San Diego through Hotwire. It was a 4 star hotel and after paying, I found out it was a new hotel I'd never heard of. Ok fine, let's check it out. So I went to the hotel's website and found the room I paid Hotwire $153 for was offered on the hotel's site for $129. So I called Hotwire customer service and they acknowledged the difference and said I'd be eligible for their double the difference guarantee, which would be $48. That was 3 months ago. Since then I've spent literally hours on the phone and heard every excuse known to man. I guess they feel that after enough time and frustration (I was on hold for 50 minutes this last time) that I'll give up. That's not going to happen because if I do, then their obvious opinion that my time is worthless will be validated. Consumers beware...Avoid Hotwire.com at all costs!

the lowest price,quick and easy!
by quadrailand ,May 14 '09
Hotwire was recommended to me by a former travel agent, and is the fastest and easiest site I have used. If you need all the information and 48 hours to think things over-this is NOT the site for you!! I had an unusual situation that prevented me from travelling and when I called Hotwire customer service they were VERY helpful. They were able to work with the hotels and car rental companies I had booked with to secure a refund!!! I really did not expect a lot of help as the conditions are pretty clear that the deal is done when the booking is made, but Hotwire came through!! we will be re-booking the same trip this fall, online with Hotwire.

sucks
by afarha ,Nov 15 '09
Hotwire Sucks! I booked for a 4 day rental car. I returned the car in three days and had to pay for all 4 days. I have been traveling for 15 years. Never got charged in advanced for car rental nor had to pay for unused time. If I would've needed the car for an extra day, I would've had to pay 2.5 times the daily rate. HOTWIRE absolutely sucks, please do not book with them. Especially prepaid.

by teonmerritt ,Nov 15 '09
I reserved what i thought was a motel in one area and when i got the confromation it was for a motel at the tip of the map 28 miles away from where i thought it was. I have learned a caluable lesson and didnt save any money because of gas difference. I will never use them again because when i called them i was told to learn to read a map.

hotwire - great car rental, and excellent price
by shcnm ,Oct 09 '09
We needed to rent a care in Bozeman Montana. We tried to do it through Priceline and direct rental for the car companies. A small pop up add advised us about Hotwire rental.
We called Hotwire, told them what we wanted and the helpful phone representative led us to believe this could be good deal.
We rented a midsize car (make and model unknown until we paid) for a week for about 1/2 the price of other quotes.
We got to Bozeman late at night. The clerk was helpful in giving us directions to our B & B. The car was a 2009 Nissan Rogue and it was a clean peppy little car. There were no additional charges and return was easy. We would highly recommend Hotwire as a car rental agency.

Stay away. It's a scam.
by birge ,Jul 28 '06
Hotwire is a scam. Plain and simple. They actually don't have any true deals available, just the same prices available anywhere. They show a low "price" but always tack on horrendous "taxes" when you finally make the purchase. Of course, their low price guarantee only applies to the meaningless initial price, not the total. They keep the hotels' names secret not for the sake of the hotels, but to make it impossible to discover the scam by price comparing. Truly disgusting.

Hotwire - Consumer fraud and misleading hotel ratings
by telbel ,Sep 30 '09
Using the Hotwire web site I booked a hotel sold as a 4 star establishment. When we arrived at the hotel it was a very simple 3 star (at best) hotel. This is supported by the hotels business certificate that clearly states the establishment is authorized to operate and market itself as a 3 star hotel.
The hotel staff could only laugh at my Hotwire booking confirmation, the only thing Hotwire got right was the hotel's address.
I was surprised to find out that Hotwire does not abide by the hotels own classification, but rate according to their own standards. As such, 4 stars by Hotwire does not indicate the hotels actual star rating.
Hotwire is refusing to review their hotel classification, and I am left having spent my dream vacation on a cot (literally) in a tiny room with 80's furniture, cracked tiles and in need of a coat of paint.
I would suggest Hotwire revisits it's tagline, they really do sell 2-star hotels @ 4-star prices.

It would have been much cheaper to book from the hotel
by gradyvt ,Aug 30 '07
I decided to give Hotwire a try recently. Once purchased, the hotel I selected was revealed to be the one hotel I hoped to NOT get based on many reviews I had read on other travel sites. The price I paid was only $9 cheaper than these other sites (Orbitz, etc), and I then called the hotel to check their rate and they offered the same room to me for $21 less (flat rate - not including tax and fees) than I paid on Hotwire. All of the amenity information listed with the sale was accurate, but I expected a more significant savings from other sites and I was very dismayed to see that had I called that hotel in the first place I would have saved much more money.

Hotwire is a TERRIBLE
by madviper ,Nov 29 '06
Yesterday I was booking a 4 star hotel in Vegas. Expedia gave me the Luxor for $109 a night, Tower Deluxe Room, PLUS $30 food credit. I got the pop up saying try Hotwire (their sister company). So I go there, get a 4 star room listed for $109 a night. Since it was the same price, I figured it wouldn't be the Luxor, and maybe would be MGM. So I book it. Turns out, that they sold me the Luxor, in a standard room (not the upgraded tower room, which is $10 dollars more than standard generally), and no food credit. So for the 2 nights, I was out $30 food credit, and $10 a night for the room...for a total of $50 on a $241 total invoice. So beware of Hotwire...there is a reason why the hotel is kept secret until they have your money! I could see using them for a rental car, but that is about it.

customer service is dead
by wvhoney ,Aug 09 '07
So I was trying to book a room on hotwire last night and apparently their "risk management" people decided not to let me book rooms with them anymore. Kind of strange since I've been booking rooms with them for the past few years. I got an email saying that they are allowed to kick people off their site without giving a reason.
Guess that means I'll have to stick with direct booking and being treated with respect when I check in (which never happens when you use hotwire to book).
