I ordered a Halloween Costume on September 28th. It did not arrive until October 18th, and it was the wrong costume in the wrong size! How do these people stay in business in the 21st century with such horrible service? (Trust me, the delay was entirely the fault of Lillian Vernon...not the shipping company.) When you call, they are NO HELP! They can only take orders, and can't resolve any problems! My daughter was heartbroken after waiting anxiously for her costume which took forever to arrive, and was not what we ordered when it finally did arrive! OH...and get this, when I called them to tell them that the order was wrong...the costume is now OUT OF STOCK!!! Please...DO NOT BUY FROM LILLIAN VERNON!!!

Broken promises, uncertainty regarding my order, and poor customer service

This is the worst Mail-Order vendor I have dealt with. I ordered a rocking unicorn for my niece December 13th with promised delivery by Christmas was told the item was in stock. When we went to visit the family the week after Christmas we were embarrassed to learn that no gift had arrived. December 27th I called to learn that the item had been discontinued. I was abruptly disconnected when I complained about being left in the dark about my order. The second week of January, I received a card in mail informing me the item was discontinued. This was followed by another card received January 14th that the "gift order you placed with us is being sent and we hope you enjoy the convenience of our gift-sending service". On calling customer service I was told again that the item was discontinued and had not been sent, but if it was received my niece could take it to the post office and send it back. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was disconnected again. I summary, an altogether disappointing and unsatisfactory experience.

When I called a few days before Christmas to see why I haven't received my merchandise yet, I found out that they had no record of my order. What kind of scam business is this? 26 days after my order, still no presents and no answers

I ordered several Christmas presents for my grandchildren on November 26th, and I chose expedited UPS shipping because I didn't want any risk at all they would not arrive in plenty of time for Christmas. According to the website, they would arrive in early December. Well, today is December 22nd. The company emailed me that one item had been shipped on Dec 5. It still has not arrived, and they provide no tracking information in their email. Other items were shipped on December 10th, a full two weeks AFTER I placed my order. Some, but not all, last week; the remainder are still missing.

Lillian Vernon has not responded to my emails, their phone number is always busy--I've been trying to call daily for a week now--and I mean beeeep--beeeeep--beeeep no-answer busy, not long hold times. And the company has not had the courtesy to respond to my emails. So now I am out the money, Christmas is in two days, and I still don't have the presents for my grandchildren. Bad company.

I placed an order on November 5. I am still waiting for it to arrive. They emailed me, telling me that it shipped on Nov. 11. Today is Nov. 22. It still has not arrived, and they have no tracking info, and they continue to insist that I need to be "patient" and wait until Nov 29! They insist that my package shipped on the 11th and it should arrive by the 29th, and that seems to make total sense to them. I have sent them 5 emails; they have taken 1 week to respond to 2 only of them, and that is the response I have been given!

I ordered items three weeks before Christmas, with a guarantee of arrival by Christmas Eve. When I had not received my shipment by the 21st, I emailed and called to try to find out where my gifts were. I made five attempts to find my items. Each time I talked to a customer service representative they could only tell my that my items were guaranteed to arrive by the 24th, nothing more. My items arrived on the 27th, two days after Christmas, without so much as an apology or explanation. Lillian Vernon claims "At Lillian Vernon, customer service is our number one priority" and "satisfaction guaranteed". Customer service stinks and I am very definitely not satisfied. I will never shop here again.

I had a couple of bad experiences with Lillian Vernon Online last Christmas. Not only is their website difficult to navigate but it seems their items are always on backorder (not what you want to hear at Christmas). I ordered a few things with the understanding that they were coming before Christmas but they didn't arrive until after Christmas. I had to buy other gifts from other stores to make up for it!!! I just came across an item now that I am looking for this Christmas and noticed it is on this site, but it's on BACKORDER! Imagine that. I am never going to shop at Lillian Vernon again.

I ordered a product from Lillian Vernon on November 25, 2006. It is now February 18, 2007 and the product still has not arrived. Customer service is poor. I was still being told a couple of days before Christmas that the product would arrive by Christmas. I am now told the product is on "backorder" but should arrive sometime this month (nobody can tell me if it has been on backorder since I ordered it three months ago). Another product I also ordered from the online catalog was out of stock, but I did not learn that until I received the other products I ordered two weeks later. Horrendous shopping experience. I will never shop Lillian Vernon again.

Friendly Orders, Late Delivery, Cheap Products, Lame Assistance w/ Returns

I took advantage of the free shipping on large orders last year by doing a bulk of Christmas shopping through Lillian Vernon. Never again.

When my other orders that were placed much later arrived first, I called about my order status and was told that the personalized items were the cause for delay--even though the catalog and the sales representative both assured me of a speedy shipment.

The order DID finally arrive just in time for Christmas but NOT in time to exchange as they were unsuitable for gift giving.

1)The monogram on a leather photo envelope was not only difficult to read but visibly crooked
2)Personalized playdough container was adorable but arrived with a broken handle
3)The name on the throw blanket was supposed to read:

Grandma
x o x o

instead it read: Grandma Xoxo (as if Xoxo was her last name)

After my email got no response, I held on the phone for well over 30 minutes just to have an operator tell me that she could only take orders. The corporate office would have to help me after they returned from their 2 wk holiday break. Big help.

When trying to return items, customer service reps have been rude and not very helpful (one even hung up on me when I asked if she could give me her name). The 100% money back guarantee does not include shipping if your change your mind about the products (even if it's because of quality).

Like a few others, I wish I would have checked this site before ordering from Lillian Vernon. Their "Christmas ordering deadline" of Dec. 16 is a joke. I ordered two items on Dec. 12, NOT personalized because I didn't want to risk them not arriving by Christmas. One of the two was finally shipped Dec. 21 -- but here it is Christmas Eve and it hasn't arrived yet. Same experience too with the 800 number. I got through once, and there was a recording that said they would ship expedited at their expense for items ordered before the Dec. 16 deadline. I just checked my order status -- my other item hasn't shipped yet.

Now, compare this to Lands End, where I placed an order on Dec. 19 (a Sunday) and received it on Dec. 22 -- and that was with their standard shipping!

This was my first and LAST purchase with Lillian Vernon.

I placed an order with Lillian Vernon online 11/29/04. A few days later I received part of the order and I have been waiting for the two (2) missing items ever since. These items were supposed to be Christmas presents for my grandchildren and it is now 12/27/04.

The items I did receive were great and I love the catalog, but I have yet to receive an explanation as to where my items are or if they have been lost, resent or backordered, ect.

Stay away from Lillian! I ordered gift certificates for my mom December 17th, 2007. It's January 5th, 2008 and they still haven't arrived. Apparently, they send them out regular mail, no tracking. The worst part is that they won't do anything until January 10th as they wait 14 business days to ship. When I asked my options the "manager" told me that I'd have to call again they could ship new gift certificates on that day. I said "So, we're looking at another two weeks for delivery and my mom would get her Christmas gift in February." She said "That's right". And that's a manager.
UPDATE: I logged in to reveiw my account and my status showed "Item cancelled". Relunctantly, I called customer service again and the rep kept telling me to wait until January 10th. I said repeatedly "Please - let me finish, I'm asking about something else." Eventually, she listened and told me that the on-line status was probably an error and blew me off. Considering everything, I don't think it is. Then she said "I don't see what's so hard to understand here, you're going to have to wait". Save your nerves people, go somewhere else.

We ordered our Christmas gifts and got the confirmation email. Everything seemed great. We've shopped there before and knew the customer service was lousy and time it took to get products ready to ship was slow, but we could never get over this latest all time low. Get this. For some reason our credit card company didn't authorize the sale when they wanted to ship our order. So what do you think Lillian Vernon does? Send us an email? No! Update the website that we visit everyday to check status? No! They do absolutely nothing. Now it's too late to get our items for Christmas and half are out of stock even though we placed our order two weeks ago when everything was in stock.

Products are not what they are advertised to be. I order the Teen Titan Dress up trunk for my nephew and son. What I got was a small 8 X 10 box. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE PICTURE. The picture on the web shows a trunk that opens from the top. This was know trunk it was box. The costumes were okay but cheesy as well. I paid 29.98 for the trunks expecting that for the price I would get something decent. The customer service the 1st time was horrible. The lady had no clue. I thought there had been a mistake and the trunks were suppose to come separate. But no, mistake was made. That was the products. The 2nd CS rep was much better and the 3rd sent me out return shipping labels. Lillian Vernon is defiantly hit and miss.

Customer Service Stinks - I'll never shop there again!

I ordered a personalized Xmas ornament on NOVEMBER 3. The website said it could be 4 weeks to receive it. It is now December 20th. My first 2 emails went unanswered. When I called I was told that this item was outsourced, there is a delay, but they cannot check the order status but promised it by "the holidays". I was also told I could not cancel the order, but I could refuse it when it arrives, which means it will be delivered and then I can spend more of my time and money taking it back to the post office in hopes that LV will refund my money.

A subsequent email was responded to with we're "hoping" to send it out by 12/23. That would get it here the day AFTER Xmas at the earliest.

I have replaced the item and if it ever comes, I will chalk it up to a learning experience that LV's customer service SUCKS and I will never shop there again.

Took 3 times to get it right. Then after all that I am not happy with it. I ordered a sliver Tiffany style bracelet with an engraved heart tag. While ordering on line it asked for the initials that I would like engraved and I put AJA. I though everything would be fine. 1st order never arrived. Called customer service and they overnighted the 2nd order to me and where I opened it the heart was engraved AAJ. So I once again called customer service and the overnighted the 3rd order to me which was finally right. I just guess that for all that hassle I don't feel the bracelet is of that great a quality. So there it sits in the bottom of my jewelry box never to be worn and $25 in the garbage.

Terrible experience! I ordered my items on Dec.1 st and paid for the upgrade in shipping so I would get them in time... I finally received them today. Among other things I ordered some personalized items for my kids teachers. There last day of school was Dec.19 So now they won't get there gifts until the kids go back. They do not answer your emails and if you call the people are rude and absolutely NO HELP. They don't even have tracking numbers. When I finally received my items I was not pleased. I ordered a wooden box with my childs teachers name on it and it has push pins inside. It looks like a child did it with a wood burning kit. Horrible... I ordered my husband a personalized coffee mug, the name is smeared Horrible... The only decent item was a bag I got for my other childs teacher, it had her name embroidered on it and it looks ok. All and all I am hugely disappointed and will Never use this site again.

AFter placing an order, I noticed that they charged my credit card immediately. I don't know about the rest of you, but my online experience leads me to believe that a company shouldn't charge your account until it delivers the product. That's the first thing they did wrong. Next, the ridiculous email they sent me regarding my order didn't even match up with my original order number. When I try to log online to see the status, it says my user id is invalid. My next attempt was to call the 800 number. Forget it! I got some lame recording telling me that the volume is too high to take my call now. That's damaging. Wouldn't you want to high more people around the holidays? Lillian V you really need to step it up if you intend on doing online business. Very poor service. Would NOT recommend buying from this company either via catalog or online. Their products are junky anyway. Stick with reputable companies like Amazon and Best Buy or WalMart.

Terrible systems over there. Received a gift in the mail...with no card or info who it was from. No invoice, no order #....just a box and the gift. I called Lillian Vernon to find out who it was from (so I could thank them) and they could not figure it out. Yes, that is right - someone ordered a gift from them, they delivered it to us, but now can not tell us who got it for us. Good control of their ordering system, huh? Idiots.

I've been a devoted Lillian Vernon shopper going on 5 years now. I've alway gotten my items in timely manner and all of my purchases have been nothing but the finest quality. I've just been reading where so many people have had some not so pleasant experiences with L.V. and I guess I'm one of the lucky customers. I do know if you place on order and it has to be personalized, it can take a bit longer to receive the shipment but anytime I've placed an order with no personalized items...I usually have my order within 7 business days and I consider that great since I only use their standard shipping. I've ordered many items for Christmas and I've never had any problems receiving my order in time for Christmas. I really think it's sad that so many people have had bad experiences with a company such as this, maybe this will be a wakeup call for them and they will get things back on track. I'll still be ordering from Lillian Vernon since all my dealings have been great ones.

I bought an item on 11/27, more than 2 weeks before the Christmas cutoff. It is now Christmas Eve and I have no present for my niece. The website says it is "pending and has not shipped but that I can expect it by 12/15", apparently NoT! I called customer service and they have absolutely no idea when it might arrive. She said she could do nothing for me.
They did not inform me that my item would not be here by Christmas. Now I have presents for my nephews and nothing for my niece. I am furious!! I will not shop from this store ever again.

I have had the same horrible experience with them. I ordered gifts for Christmas, around December 5th - "Well in time for Christmas delivery" according to their website, but I have only received 2 of the 14 items I ordered. I've had to contact customer service several times - and was only able to get through on the phone once. I received the same busy signal that may of you received and the one time I did get through - it hung up on me.
Sounds like a scam to me - so I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Hopefully they can put a stop to this. Meanwhile - I'll be going to Wal-Mart (where I should have just gone to in the first place) to get the gifts for Christmas.

The Online store is awful! They back ordered my Christmas gifts and did not bother to let me know. My nieces had nothing to open from me on Christmas morning. I emailed them to alert them to the mistake and this was the response I got:

"thank you for your email, your comments has been noted.
Customer Service is our number priority."

As you can see, this response to my complaint is neither helpful, or well thought out.

Delivery speed- pathetic. I am what I thought to be an early Christmas shopper. I placed my order on December 6 and they have yet to ship my order. Customer service is nonexistent. I have been trying to get a call through for the last two days and only hear busy signals. I suppose that they would rather not hear from frustrated customers like myself. I plan on refusing the order if and when it arrives. I am forced to order my item at another retailer and pray that my dad's Christmas gift will arrive in time. My experience is unfortunately too similar to the other customers who would not recommend this retailer.

BUYER BEWARE! Read the 2003 review and I am amazed. Unfortunately this company is now a holiday shopper's worst nightmare. I placed my Christmas order for six items online November 24. Given a delivery date of "no later" than December 15. One personalized item was delivered approximately December 12. December 15 came and went. I tried calling and e-mailing to get a status update for the rest of my order. My calls were disconnected several times and when I made it through the wait time was horrendous. I hung up. I e-mailed them and still have not received a response from them. When I called back there was a recording saying their shipping department was up to date and they cannot track packages. December 23 I received another package. Two items were missing, including a personalized gift for a teacher who is now on holiday vacation. I normally don't post reviews but I believe others should be warned. Do not trust this company for your holiday shopping! I'm still waiting for the rest of my order.

I waited on hold for nearly 4 hours, before finding another 800 number where a nice C/S rep named Monick took my call. She said she would cancel my order & re-order the items that were ready to ship. I did this & guess what? She never canceled my order - so now I am going to receive 2, because today, my original order shipped!! I have never seen such an unprofessional company. I feel totally ripped off & I will tell everyone I know to avoid them like the plague!

Slow Delivery & Poor Quality the Norm!

Heard this was a decent store, so when I found a beanbag chair on the site my son liked, I ordered for Christmas. It was ordered in time for Christmas delivery according to the site, but of course that did not happen. According to customer service email (very smart-a$$ tone to email) there was fine print on the site stating that the beanbag chair would take up to 4-weeks for delivery, and we only ordered 3-weeks before Christmas (Dec 4). I did verify that this was stated, but still surprised it would take more than 3-weeks. Well evidently during the Christmas season Lillian Vernon made the brilliant decision to ship via the USPS instead of FedEx or UPS like all other reputable etailers.

Well, when all the parts of the beanbag chair finally arrived (5-weeks after ordering BTW), we assembled it to find it was of very poor quality. Not much different than those you buy for $19.99 on the side of the road (paid $59.99 less $5 coupon).

I am disappointed with both the performance of LV and the quality (or lack thereof) of the product and would not shop there again.

I had lots of trouble with the website giving me error codes, but after several tries on several days, was able to get my order placed. I received an email confirmation that my order had been placed, and it arrived 8 days later.

Unfortunately, the quality of the products is not great. I am actually having to return one item because it simply does not work. I found it a bit odd that there were detailed instructions in the package on how to return items - including a label just for that purpose. It would seem that returns are par for the course.

While my order did arrive intact and on-time, I likely will not shop at Lillian Vernon again.

I ordered some items over Christmas (many weeks prior to Christmas) and failed to get them in a timely fashion.

I justified that as being the wrong time of year to complain about shipping.

I recently placed an order for 2 items listed as 'in stock' the items took 5 business days to ship, and then customer service says it will take 5-10 days to be delivered.

This just isn't very good service.

Placed an order online order that totaled $176, out of that two of the items were suppose to be 2 for $29.99. I am charged $34.98 each. There online did not reflect this even though they say it in the catalog. They were never ever able to correct this problem and refund my money. Next, my order arrives in two shipments--weeks apart--even though the all of the items I ordered were in stock! Merchandise is cheaply made, poor quality. Next I need to return the very items that I was suppose to receive a credit for originally--they mispelled my daughter's name on her robe. I mail the items back, I am told it will be 6 weeks before I receive a refund for my return! That is $70 here at Christmas that this company is holding onto, so they have the capability of taking your money right away, but they can not return your money for 6 weeks! Horrible service!!!

Ordered personilized quilt on 11/25. Didn't arrive. Called on 12/10 and was told it was on Dock shipping next day. Never arrived. Tried for 48 straight hours to get customer service and it was always busy. Sent emails with no response in 7 days. Finally got someone on phone 12/22, was told it had shipped that day. They could not provide tracking number, but promised delivery by next day. Still has not arrived, and unable to get anyone on the phone, still always busy.

Warning: BEWARE of their BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES: this company is awful! I placed an order, received email confirmation but it NEVER arrived. I had guarantee by x-mas, confirmed via email, but they VOIDED the order instead of shipping!!!! This was kid's presents! Be Aware - they have denied any wrongdoing and sent me a letter acknowledging voiding my order, postmarked in January! This is unethical, at Best! They contractually committed to order delivery by Christmas, but instead voided it without notice. Why? To avoid delivery guarantee??? I had NO warning that it would not ship. They did not contact by email, phone or letter (until several weeks after x-mas, January 13th letter arrived, so much for kid's presents.
Customer Service is painful, robotic and insulting!!! Avoid this company, it is not worth the money. The quality is low on other items previously purchased. If you have had challenges - Contact Better Business Bureau!

I'm very disappointed by Lillian Vernon. On Nov. 30th I placed an order for personalized ornaments and other gifts. Early in December, I checked the site to track the order. The site indicated that personalized orders were in process and that the order would be received no later than 12/20/05. I called this evening and was told that I would not receive shipment until 12/30/05 or later. My other order can't be tracked and they don't know what happened to it - they say it was shipped over 14 days ago. They never updated the 'tracking' site. If they had told me it wouldn't be ready until after Christmas - I would have gone a different route. They 'now' indicate on the order page that if you don't order the ornament by Nov. 21, it 'might' not get there by Christmas. That was not there on November 30! No response by Lillian Vernon on an email that was sent yesterday.
