Stamps.com - one of the founders of the Internet postage phenomenon, is still by far the easiest way to print postage from home. It aint cheaper than going to the post office and buying stamps but it's a must have for heavy postage users (ie. online auction vendors). It is also a very nice backup to have for those times you need to send an extremely urgent package that must be picked up at the Postman's first run at 6am. You can figure out all the details from their website - the point of this review is to convince all my readers why they should just TRY the service regardless of their need for online postage printing. WHY? Because it will make you some free cash just for trying!
Stamps.com has been running a promotion for many months now which gives you free postage on a risk-free 1 month trial program (you'll need to deposit at least $10 to start off). It has two principal plans:
a. Low Usage - no monthly fees, just 10% commission on your total $$ of postage spent, subject to a minimum of $1.99 per month. Signing up for this deal will immediately see your account credited with $20 worth of free postage. (in some cases, if you sign up through an "affiliate" link like a banner ad, you'll get $25). I would post such a link but I think some uptight bozo will scream and try to get me booted from epinions. :)
b.High Usage - flat monthly fee of $15.99 and you get to print however much postage you want without any commission charges. This is the most sensible option for high volume users. With this plan, they also provide $40 of free postage ($45 through affiliate links as in option a) AND a free digital scale (which according to their website lists for $149 but they sell at a discount to members at $49.95). If you cancel before your month trial period comes up, you will not be charged $15.99 but will have to return the scale. Nevertheless, you could have spent $40 worth of free postage at no cost to you. HOWEVER, the smart thing to do is this: Pay the $15.99 and keep the scale. If you have use for the scale, keep it, it's worth the $15.99. If not, auction it on ebay - these babies go for about $40. That's a nice incentive for trying out stamps.com, don't ya think?
Cons of Stamps.com? Their Customer service reps are not too bright - especially at 2am in the morning. :)
*Need ideas for how to make use of the free postage? I recommend selling your used CDs on Half.com* You should also consider getting a BMG music club membership (12 for 1 deal) and selling those for a nice tidy profit. (your choice of CDs matters - hot acts like christina aguilera, eminem, sisqo, faith hill, santana will fetch premium prices).
I hope you think this epinion kicks ass. If you do, do leave a note. :)
