I'm usually not a fan of working at home -- It's always a big hassle dialing in to the network and the access speeds over a modem are tough to deal with when you're used to a T-1 at work and cable speeds at home. Plus, if you work for a large company, you need to make sure that you limit your connection, so you need to dial in to get your email and log out -- then dial back in to send your responses, etc. It can be quite annoying.
Driveway makes it easier. Driveway is a free storage site. There are many of them out there, but this is one of the best.
Here's how you use it:
Register as a user. The registration process is very quick and quite benign. All you need to do is give up some information about yourself -- just name, birthday and how you found out about driveway. If you want to receive some emails from Yesmail -- say OK here. Or just click the button to start using Driveway.
Driveway makes it very easy to upload files. Just click the UPLOAD button, search your harddrive for the file that you want, and it copies it right to the new directory.
Similarly, its easy to create new folders at your account. You just need to click the NEW FOLDER button and give it a name.
The most useful feature in the Driveway system is the search and advanced search functions. This makes it very easy to locate a file that you may have moved here and then forgotten about.
Downloads from driveway are like any other HTML download. Click on the file and pick the directory on your hard drive that you'd like to transfer the file to.
There are a few ways to get more space at driveway. First, you can invite your friends to the service. This will get you about 10-40 megs of additional space. This is an excellent use of online viral marketing! Or you can purchase storage directly from the service.
Driveway is an excellent addition to your online toolset if you work from home or travel a lot. Give it a try.
